  1. baloosh13 says:

beckham is fighting hard… ac is getting chippy against a plucky sampdoria team… 1-0 sampdoria 42nd minute

  2. gofirego says:

Gee, what happened to Pachuca last night? The “superlider” lost 5-0 to Chivas at Estadio Jalisco. Paco Torres played the whole game.

Is Landon in the 18 for Bayern today?

  3. Nats says:

    He’s in the 18.

Altintop is starting up front before him and Podolski. How embarrasing for both of them.

  4. ManicMessiah says:

    Starting Line-ups

    Manchester United

Foster, Evra, Evans, Ferdinand, O’Shea, Nani, Gibson, Scholes, Ronaldo, Welbeck, Tevez

Gomez, Corluka, Dawson, King, Ekkoto, Lennon, Zokora, Jenas, Modric, Bent, Pavlyuchenko

  5. ManicMessiah says:

Scoreless through 10 minutes, though the pace of the game has been good so far.

  6. Nutmegger says:

Any link for the Carling Cup match?

  7. ManicMessiah says:

14th minute- A Tevez shot at the top of the penalty was deflected back to Gibson, who took a long shot that flashed just wide of the goal! Good effort, there.

  8. ManicMessiah says:

    Sorry, I’m watching on espn360.

  9. ManicMessiah says:

16th minute- Nani cut in from the left and lashed a shot that Gomez dove for and only managed to push the ball out for a corner, which came to nothing.

  10. ManicMessiah says:

18th minute- Great chance for Tottenham, as Lennon got past Evra and got to a ball flicked forward for him. Foster came out of goal but couldn’t get to the ball, and Lennon sent a ball across the middle of goal which Pavlyuchenko slid to try and get a foot on, but skied the ball out instead!

  11. jtd says:

    samp 2 – 0 mil in the 66th.

first beckham drings the galaxy down to last place now he’s slowly infecting ac into mediocrity.

    makes you go hmmm…

  12. ManicMessiah says:

23rd minute- Ronaldo puts on the pace to head a bouncing ball forward on the right, but his cutback pass to Tevez was behind him and cleared out for a corner.

24th minute- Rio Ferdinand volleys a shot from off his knee that went over the top of the goal by about a foot! that would have been some goal.

  13. ManicMessiah says:

27th minute- Ekkoto is doing a pretty good job on Ronaldo so far, especially with Modric wandering away from his midfield position in front of Ekkoto.

  14. ManicMessiah says:

29th minute- Modric, from the middle of the pitch, played a ball forward to Bent, who took a shot from the right which was deflected by a defender, but Foster made the save look simpler than it was.

  15. ManicMessiah says:

35th- Lennon, over on the left, sent in a right footed cross which Pavyluchenko got to ahead of Ferdinand, but could not put it on goal! He should have done better with that chance.

  16. ManicMessiah says:

44th minute- Fabio Capello is an interesting onlooker for this final. Totteham have been at least on even footing with Man U for the last 20 or so minutes.

  17. ManicMessiah says:

45th minute- That would be interest-ed. Tevez, meanwhile, avoids two or three tackles in the midfield with some nifty footwork, but the ball ends up being knocked out for a Tottenham throw in.

  18. ManicMessiah says:

45+1- Modric plays a ball on the ground for Lennon, who once again beat Evra on the left before sending in a ball on the ground that was desperately oout for a corner, which came to nothing.

    Half Time, 0-0.

  19. Jason says:

Spector got 7 minutes today off the bench!

  20. ManicMessiah says:

    2nd half begins

47th minute- Ronaldo fouled on the right within shooting distance. He managed to not hit the wall, but didn’t put the ball close to being on goal.

  21. SonicDeathMonkey says:

Villa up 1-0 at HT over Stoke.

  22. ManicMessiah says:

49th minute- Ronaldo had the ball on the right, perfectly sent from O’Shea, but he tries to play it back to Tevez, rather than playing it to Welbeck or even shooting himself, and the pass was wide.

Lennon was fouled making a quick counter back. Pavyluchenko took the free kick instead of Modric, and managed to hit a poorer free kick than Ronaldo’s last one.

  23. ManicMessiah says:

52nd minute- Man U have started the 2nd half in the same fashion as they did the 1st, controlling the play.

As I type that Modric starts a counter, pushing the ball forward to Pavlyuchenko, but Man U recovered before a chance could come from it.

Moments later Modric sent in a free kick from the left which was knocked out by Ferdinand for a corner.

  24. CSD says:

Clint Dempsey has promised to record an FA Cup final song if Fulham reach the Wembley final. The American midfielder goes by the alias ‘Deuce’ and says his rapping will eclipse the efforts of Liverpool players in the 1990s. “I’ve heard about FA Cup final songs – especially that Anfield Rap,” he said. “I was thinking about hanging up my mic and retiring, but if we get to Wembley I can do better than that.” (The People)

  25. ManicMessiah says:

56th minute- Man U make the first sub of the game, with Danny Welbeck coming off for Anderson.

  26. ManicMessiah says:

57th minute- O’Shea booked after escaping a yellow on a few other challenges.

  27. ManicMessiah says:

60th minute- Pavyluchenko ends a promising counter by blasting a long shot that comes nowhere near goal, again.

  28. ManicMessiah says:

61st minut- Close for Man U! O’Shea heads a corner back into the middle, which was deflected to Evans. He took a shot which came to Tevez open just to the left of goal, but he could only backheel the ball and sent it wide of goal.

  29. ManicMessiah says:

63rd minute- Free kick from the left wing, close enough to the middle of the pitch to have a shot. Anderson sent it curling into the back post, Gomez came out but misjudged it, but there were no Man U players near it.

  30. ManicMessiah says:

64th minute- O’Shea goes in late on a challenge, and is amazingly lucky not to have been sent off for it.

  31. ManicMessiah says:

65th minute- Tottenham making their first sub, as Pavyluchenko is ending his disappointing night, coming out for O’Hara.

  32. ManicMessiah says:

67th minute- Ronaldo booked for diving at the edge of the penalty area. Ledley King might have nicked him, but even if he did, it’s probably even up for not sending off O’Shea.

  33. ManicMessiah says:

71st minute- Foster made a brilliant save to deny Lennon an open shot from the right, set up by a great pass from Modric. O’Shea slipped to create the chance in the first place.

  34. ManicMessiah says:

75th minute- Vidic is coming in for O’Shea, so Evans is moving to right back and Vidic will slide into the center.

  35. Jason says:

John Carew in the 79th! Aston Villa 2-0

  36. ManicMessiah says:

80th minute- Lennon earns a free kick from the right wing. O’Hara sends in the cross, but Foster came out and got it.

Lennon’s had a great game against Evra, and has also tracked back during the game putting in some good defensive work on a few occasions.

  37. ManicMessiah says:

83rd minute- 88,217 is the official attendance at the cup final.

  38. ManicMessiah says:

84th minute- Modric was 1 v 1 with Vidic on the right, but could only cross it into Vidic twice, earning a corner which was caught by Foster.

  39. ManicMessiah says:

85th minute- A Man U pass comes off the referee, but before Tottenham can break out the ref calls a foul on Modric.

Left of center, Ronaldo will look to have a shot, but he hit the wall, and O’Hara is down after taking it on the chest.

  40. Jason says:

Goal Stoke in the 87th 2-1

  41. ManicMessiah says:

90th minute- 3 minutes of extra time, and more to come after if there isn’t a goal in that time.

  42. Jason says:

Stoke fine the equalizer in the 91st. Aston Villa is stunned.

  43. Jason says:

    FT, Aston Villa-Stoke 2-2.

  44. SonicDeathMonkey says:

    Holy $*@&!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  45. Jacob A. says:

That Stoke-Villa game, although I caught myself rooting for Villa, was something else. I mean, wow. What an ending.

  46. ManicMessiah says:

93rd minute- Ronaldo hits the post! Ronaldo cut inward from the right, and hit a shot which just struck the post, and I don’t think Gomez would have gotten to it were it on target.

2nd Half Ends, 0-0, and we are heading to Extra Time.

  47. SonicDeathMonkey says:

That shot by Divealdo was incredible!!!

  48. ManicMessiah says:

Gibson has come off for Ryan Giggs, and the 1st Half of Extra Time begins.

  49. matt says:

the end of that aston villa game was NUTS. how awesome was carew’s goal? wow. sad a bit for villa, hopefully they can still stay in the top four but awesome for stoke…friggin wow!

  50. Jason says:

looks like Podolski is coming on for Bayern Munich.

  51. ManicMessiah says:

7th minute- Both teams seem tired right now, though Tottenham has had more posession in extra time.

  52. Andy in Atlanta says:

Landon will still likely get 20 min if still 0-0

  53. ManicMessiah says:

9th minute- Gareth Bale coming in for Jenas, Tottenham’s 2nd sub of the match

  54. ManicMessiah says:

11th minute- Aaron Lennon is down, and the trainer is signalling to sub him.

David Bentley is coming on for Lennon, and that is Tottenham’s last sub.

  55. Jason says:

David Beckham for sure, is “just a memory” right?

  56. ManicMessiah says:

14th minute- Bale made a very long run on the counter and looked like he might get to goal, but he couldn’t get past Vidic.

15th minute- only 1 minute extra in this half.

  57. ManicMessiah says:

End of 1st Half of Extra Time.

  58. ManicMessiah says:

    2nd Extra Time Half starts.

  59. ManicMessiah says:

17th minute- Man U earn a corner, which is about the only way I can see anyone scoring in this period.

  60. RedLine55 says:

who caught the Hammers this morning!? what a fannntastic result!

  61. ManicMessiah says:

18th minute- Corner was wasted. Tottenham came back the other way, with O’Hara given the ball back with a lot of space, but shooting the ball well high from distance.

19th minute- Scholes with a yellow, and Tottenham have a free kick which Bentley sent in, a cross which was hit too long and ended up hitting the top of the goal.

  62. Jason says:

Yellow Card on a Bremen guy

  63. ManicMessiah says:

21st minute- Tevez sent a shot that did not trouble the goalkeeper. Dawson is down right now, cramping.

  64. ManicMessiah says:

24th minute- Dawson is finally off the pitch, and the game is restarted with a kick from Gomez.

  65. ManicMessiah says:

25th minute- Dawson is back on, but might as well be off the way he is moving.

Foster makes a save to stop a Bent shot!

  66. Jason says:

    Yellow on Van Bommel

  67. ManicMessiah says:

29th minute- Tevez headed a ball over to Evra, who hit a shot from the left as he was falling, and the shot goes over the net.

  68. ManicMessiah says:

30th minute- 3 minutes of extra time to go before penalties.

  69. Jason says:

Werder Bremen just missed an easy open net

  70. ManicMessiah says:

31st minute- Tevez, still working hard, earns a corner for Man U, though it ends up in the hands of Gomez.

  71. Jason says:

    Donovan is coming on!

  72. ManicMessiah says:

33rd minute- Anderson takes a shot from the left which was nowhere near the goal, and it will probably be the last bit of drama before penalties.

And it is, 2nd half over, and Penalties are all that’s left.

  73. Elliott says:

Come on, LD! Not much time to work with, but make it count!

  74. ManicMessiah says:

Man U will be kicking first, and Ryan Giggs steps up for the first penalty.

GOAL! Giggs goes to his right, Gomes guessed the right way, and the ball went off the post and in.

O’Hara is the next one up.

SAVED! O’Hara sent it right, but not far enough.

  75. ManicMessiah says:

Teves, GOAL! He went right, and just put it past the keeper, who guessed right again.

Corluka, GOAL! He shot to his left, Foster guessed right, but was beaten by the pace.

  76. ManicMessiah says:

Ronaldo, GOAL! Sent it right again, this time Gomes guesses wrong.

Bentley, MISS! He went to his left, Foster guessed right, but the ball went wide by a few feet anyway.

  77. ManicMessiah says:

Anderson, GOAL! He went left, Gomes went right, and Man U win the Carling Cup!!!

  78. Jason says:

Bremen’s playing for the Draw. come on Landon!

  79. Gene_SF says:

Donovan had no reasonable chance to make a lasting impact on the game. He put together a couple of good passes in the middle. But BM were goint through opposite side of the field consistently and not even remotely looking to switch points of the attack.

  80. Jason says:

no extra time, Landon made probably zero impact.

  81. Brett says:

I don’t even care about Donovan at Bayern anymore. He fought into a spot with a top club, so another lower club is definitely going to give him a chance to be a regular player.

I’m officially rooting against BM in the Bundesliga now. Landon deserved at least one chance to start a match before his loan ends, but no matter.

  82. dd says:

Great game by Modric today. He was immense for Spurs, too bad their strikers can’t score.

  83. Chris says:

“Swivel hips, like a Turkish stripper”

Ray Hudson quote of the day, describing Messi’s goal against A. Madrid.

  84. Poldi had 44 minutes to prove he worth a crap and blew two quality chances. Donovan had 13 minutes and had a chance on goal with a header, snagged by the Bremen GK, although LD was called off-side. At least he made a good effort on goal; whereas Poldi blew all of his his.

I am not mad at Bayern, although they suck of late. I am mad at Donovan for not making the most of his opportunities. While he played well, he just didn’t convert and today was one more chance. If Toni is still out, he may get another chance in the DFB Pokal this week.

  85. jddjsjsjdd says:

Does Tottenham get the UEFA spot since they were a runner-up to Man U who already claim a CL spot?

Sucks cause Everton is gonna be fighting Arsenal for the 5th spot as an entry to the UEFA Cup. They still have the FA Cup same as Fulham.

Come on Timmy and Dempsey. Get into Europe.

Bocanegra and Rennes are fighting off their ass to get back into Europe.

  86. Brett – You’re right, he did deserve a chance against Koln, but Rummenigge made a big stink and probably threatened Klinsi with his job, so Poldi got the nod. This may also explains why Man City made a call to Klinsmann.

Did you see the clip of Donovan in training on Friday? Unlike other training videos, he looked like crap in this session, and you could tell this may have gotten to his head. Give Klinsmann credit for trying to keep him focused and showcasing his skills.

  87. jddjsjsjdd says:

Donovan needs to head back to Galaxy and kick start the season right and score a hell of a lot of goals. Maybe he can get picked up by a mid-table club in Spain or Germany. He needs to be in EUROPE but not for a major club. He needs to start every week and be a star.

  88. everton says:

Okay, who can confirm Freddy is some kind of slacker or that he doesn’t respect his coaching staff? I need some kind of justification to accept his lack of playing/bench time this season… Has their been any official word from Monaco’s coaching staff, or even Benfica’s, coming out publicly and explaining why he can’t even make the bench for these teams? I heard he looked good in the exhibition against Juve during their winter break and hoped it would win him some time, but alas, nothing has changed.. very frustrating.

  89. jddjsjsjdd says:

Michael Bradley will be a star in the Bundesliga. Even if BMG get relegated i can see him getting picked up by Wolfsburg or Borussia Dortmund or Bremen. His stock can only rise. Hope he adapts to the Bundesliga and stay there.

More of our young players need to head to leagues like the NL-best for teaching and or Germany/France. Our players are either fast so go for France. Or strong and defense minded- go for Germany.

  90. jddjsjsjdd says:

Odd that Podolski seems to only perform for the national team but is crap for club. He needs FC Koln. Be a big star on a mid-table club for him.

However Miroslav Klose is a brillant striker but still underestimated when compared to the likes of Torres, Villa, Ibrahimovic, Van Persie, Rooney, Van Nistlerooy.

  91. RK says:

What a flip-flop in the Barca game — Eto misses an easy shot, then Aguero takes advantage of a defensive mistake 30 seconds later…

  92. Ben says:

The Barcelona-Athletico match is nuts! Barca need to shore up in the back! Aguero and Henry both have braces!

  93. Ben says:

Just nuts! This is a fun match to watch!

  94. RK says:

Amazing Barca game — AM up 4-3 now, Barca almost scored in injury time…

  95. Ben says:

WTF is going on today? Barca lose, Inter are down 2-nil… a little post champions league letdown for the 2 powers? Nifty goal by Riise for Roma though.

  96. Mikeype says:

Just wanted to let everyone know that Michael Parkhurst started his 1st game for FC Nordsjælland. I didn’t see the game, but Nordsjælland drew 1-1 with Vejle.

  97. Jason says:

yeah Parkhurst’s team lost to the last place team? Jeremiah White started today for Aarhus.

  98. northzax says:

Barca have been living dangerously for a while now. Yes, their attack can be unstoppable, but they concede WAY too many goals for topflight competition. In their four game winless streak (two losses, two ties) they have averaged 2 goals against a game, They record shutouts against teams like Mallorca and concede to teams like Numancia. when you consistently leak goals at home to significantly weaker clubs, it will catch up to you. their offense had been on fire, but you can’t expect to win every match 5-2. I wouldn’t call it a CL letdown, since they come home with an away goal in their pocket, more of an eventual lapse. it must give Lyon hope though, that scoring 2-3 goals at Camp Nou isn’t an impossibility right now.

Inter has to travel to Old Trafford, so was likely looking past Roma a bit. As strong as Roma is, the thought of needing to go score at Old Trafford right now has to be a bit more focusing of the mind. as, frankly, happened to ManU in the Carling today, once again they were simply unable to finish (as had been the case at San Siro last week)

by the way, the fact that Tevez, Ronaldo and RioF all went 120 minutes today has to leave the Special One salivating a little bit. how much will CR07 be able to give in three days time?

  99. marksonm says:

    watching the rennes game
80th minute, bocanegra seems to be playing well.

rennes could easily have drawn or be leading this game, Briand has had two chances that he should have put away, and the Lyon keeper has made some good saves. Surprised by how good both these teams look on the attack, technically. The game is fast and end to end, good stuff.

  100. John says: isn’t working…does anyone have a link to the boca match?

  101. EDB says:

inter roma was entertaining.. but Roma should have come out with the win disappointing

  102. marksonm says:

    91st minute – rennes 1 – 1 lyon.

Briand gets a third chance and this time puts it away.
    crowd is stunned

    game ends a draw

  103. northzax says:

no. there is no uefa spot for spurs. the runner up of the FA cup get the stop if the champion qualifies in the league. the Carling Cup spot goes to the next highest League position that hasn’t qualified. which, if the season ended today, would be Everton in 6th.

  104. MemRook says:

Good lord I am so tired of sifting through the ridiculous number of posts by “manic messiah” … yesterday’s running commentary and today’s plus the previous few weeks. I might be the only one annoyed, but I felt like I had to speak up lol.

  105. jh says:

Like the title of the post says, this is “[Our] Running Commentary.” Manic is just taking it literally.

    Honestly, though, I don’t mind.

  106. Scott A says:

Really MemRook? Ives tags these posts as Your Running Commentary and I think it’s an appreciated service when people do commentaries for anyone who doesn’t have access to a stream or the channel

  107. Erik Abarca says:

Manic, keep doing ur thing, I read it all the time. You do a good job, keep it up. Thanks!

  108. Chosun says:

I agree with Erik: Manic’s posts are a lifesaver if you can’t actually watch the game. Thanks!

  109. jddjsjsjdd says:

Yeah dpn’t hate on Maniac. He may be a crazy Man U supporter but he sure helps the rest of us know what’s going on.

Thanks northzax, So if Everton are most likely heading to Europe. If they consolidate on 6th place or move up to 5th or win the FA Cup.
