Did Beckham wear the tightest jersey ever?

David Beckham made his triumphant return from a torn Achilles last Saturday, and while getting on the field was impressive, it wasn't as impressive as the fact that he didn't pass out while wearing what may have been the tightest jersey in professional soccer history.

Form-fitting jerseys are nothing new, as clubs like AS Roma have shown through the years, but Beckham's lung-hugging jersey took snugness to a new level on Saturday.

Was this a laundry mishap or is Beckham trying to look younger to impress Fabio Capello?

Maybe it is a joke article I don’t find very funny.

(SBI-Not everyone has a sense of humor.)

  2. Chrswimmer says:

wow, too much time on your hands. is this the best you could come up with for a “soccer” column?

(SBI-It was meant as a short and funny post Chris. Why don’t you settle down.)

  3. Jamie D says:

Everyone in the room was distracted by it? “Why is his shirt so tight?” “He looks uncomfortable” “That shirt makes him look like a troll.” “WTF is up with that shirt”

Basically he runied the game with his stupid shirt.

  4. AJ says:

Those appear to be the skin tight adidas jerseys that many players were sporting during the World Cup. I think Andy Najar wears it as well, but it hasn’t been as popular in MLS as it was during the Cup.

Taylor Twellman gets my vote for tightest jersey as he appeared to wedge himself into a children’s medium that probably shouldn’t have gotten over his head.

  5. every girl in the states says says:

    Ohhhh we love it!

  6. David says:

Perhaps he is wearing it so now one can grab it. It might be a stratagey to keep from get reinjured by being brought down ackwardly.

  7. Dave says:

It’s one of those new Adidas Techfit jerseys the came out with. It’s like a compression shirt, an is supposed to improve muscle function or something. Select MLS teams had these new jerseys made available, I know DC and Chicago players can choose them too: link to footballshirtculture.com. Players could choose between a standard jersey or these.

  8. Beck's internal monologue says:

“Oh crap, looks like I brought Posh’s replica jersey instead of my own… Bollocks!”

  9. Sean says:

    Best column ever.

  10. david says:

really guys they are called tech fit jerseys and most of the galaxy players have been wearing it all year you guys only notice it on beckham

  11. Petaluman says:

Slow Monday for soccer news I guess…

  12. Nic D "The Texas 2 Stepper" wants to 2 step all over Bechams NUTZ! says:

Just paint it on next time!

You know what Riley (The Boondocks) would say. That’s real ___ my _____ !

  14. CILIIblog says:

Just be glad guys, at least he didn’t wear the tightest short in the history.

  15. C-Mo says:

Taylor Twellman…hahahah. He paved the way for “tight tops”. Coupled with his raptor arms, he was always the goofiest looking Rev ever to play for New England.

  16. Cindy says:

  17. Colin says:

I think the more important news is that he brought the sleeves back. Didn’t Grant Wahl have a take on Becks going short-sleeve last year as a way to “be more edgy, show some attitude, etc. etc.?”

  18. SBGarrett says:

Serie A has tigher shirts than that week in/week out… but its still ridiculous.

  19. Adam#2 says:

  20. EA says:

Looks like he borrowed one of Taylor Twellman’s Extra Mediums.

  21. PC says:

If anyone caught the game (and the roughly 20 minutes of Beckham stretching coverage) you could see this “wtf is this” look on his face while he was rolling the jersey on, pretty amusing actually.

  22. Freddie says:

if he keeps wearing this he can add shortness of breath to his list of ailments.

  23. kevin says:

hahaha. this is awesome. it looks so outrageous

  24. The FACTS of Life says:

He was wearing that because he was planning on going to one of the hot late-night spots in Los Angeles after the game

Which leads me to my next point: Has Beckham ever been focused on his Galaxy career?

But that’s going to change after next Saturday, when he goes up against the Costa Rican Gattuso a.k.a. Kurt “The Animal” Morsink. Sinko is gonna serve a large slice of humble pie to that primadonna!

    Believe that, playa!

  25. Yes, you are all very much correct; he is clearly wearing the techfit jersey. What you seem to be missing is the fact that the other players who wear them wear the correct size for their bodies. Beckham did not. In fact it is humorous how small the incorrect size is on him. Alas, it probably is not humorous for those of you who need it spelled out for you.

  26. biglustythonggrl says:

this isnt in the having-a-hard-on for Beckham category, but his thong or jock strap was totally visible. If you’re going to wear a thong or jockstrap dont do it under white shorts where it would be all visible and such.I could almost see the brand name too, not that I was noticing or anything.

  27. Andy says:

Seriously, if we can’t get You Write the Caption back after this, I don’t think we ever will.

(SBI-I definitely thought about it, but I’m waiting a while before bringing back YWTC.)

  28. vic says:

best responses too. I hate all that oversized american sportswear crap, which is pretty much designed and preferenced by fat bleep fans of sports that make you obese to begin with (amer. football, lethargic baseball). I recently saw the funniest size chart I’ve ever seen on an item of clothing. For USA, the size was “M” while for Germany it was “XL”. No kidding. Lose some weight yanks! I’m suprised no one in here was calling Becky’s shirt “gay tight”.

  29. Pico says:

I wonder if this has anything to do with Posh trying to do his laundry…

  30. CILIIblog says:

You guys are just jealous, cause your fat azz can’t fit into an small petite jersey.

  31. Tony says:

I’m just surprised it took 4 comments to get a Taylor Twellman remark.

I expected him to be mentioned in the initial story.

Didn’t Adidas rename their jersey size “Extra Chico” to “Extra Taylor”?

  32. Cyrus says:

It’s right up there with every single player on the Algerian NT.

  33. Brian says:

Honestly, I think this was a tighter shirt than Tightshirt Twellman ever wore. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I expect photographic evidence.

  34. DC Josh says:

    “it’s about, creative visualization.”

  35. Shark says:

We were at the game…my 17 year old daughter and I both thought he had buffed up while hurt…:) Good stuff Ives…:) Gotta laugh once in awhile…:)

  36. gaz london says:

so glad we only have to suffer the bex circus from afar these days

  37. Josh D says:

I too find this a bit amateurish. This isn’t any tighter than other form fitting jerseys or under armor. Why poke fun at Beckham? Slow day?

(SBI-It’s a joke Josh, get over it already. But since you brought it up, please show me a picture of a tighter soccer jersey.)

  38. joe k says:

yeah, twellman was wearing tight shirts before they got all cool.

but i think beckham beat him to being a whiny tool.

  39. joe k says:

i’d say that goes to larentowitz or khano smith.

those guys win the ugly mls awards.

  40. Taylor Twellman says:

I am the sexier footballer ever. Beckham needs to stop trying to be like me:

    link to kickette.com

  41. PEDOBEAR says:

whoa, before my post, the first 3 comments in this were people bashing Ives for doing this post.

    i laughed, ives.

  42. john.q says:

how do you guys not find this funny! haha the pic really helps too.

hopefully we wont see soccer players/footballs one day running around in tight ala track & field and swimming.

  43. TimN says:

Agreed. I can’t stand being out and seeing guys walking around in freaking XXXL NFL jerseys…stupidest crap ever.

  44. fortyb says:

Good times for all… Nothing wrong with some quality levity.

  45. JayMah says:

    “I can’t breathe! I can’t breathe! I can’t breathe!” (Donkey – “Shrek” after singing “I’m a believer”!)

  46. Smith says:

Man, let’s hope Zack Thorntom doesn’t start wearing them that tight.

  47. wanker says:

Now only if his shorts were as tight… The girls and some gay guys would faint in droves… :)

  48. A Guest says:

    Hehe, funny stuff Ives.

  49. Bohawk says:

Great stuff. Some folks need to get a sense of humor.

  50. Jim in Atlanta says:

LMFAO, great response Ives. I too would like to see a tighter jersey than the one Beckham wore. I thought I was the only one who realized this watching him try to squeeze into that “lung-hugger” (good pup, lol)as you call it.

  51. RLW2020 says:

hahaha good stuff. i thought that while watching the game.

  52. Jim in Atlanta says:

  53. BSU SC says:

Forget the haters Ives, this is the funniest thing I’ve seen all day. Thanks for the laugh, I really needed it in the middle of a long day at work.

  54. roughnecks85 says:

Playing American football makes you obese? Derp.

If you wanna dig on the USA, at least be original and/or correct.

  55. Tony in Quakeland says:

COnsidering how many wisecracks my wife, son and I made about the jersey, I think this was great to post. Our theory was that he accidentally grabbed his wife’s jersey on the way to the game.

  56. che cazzo says:

i believe the cameroon national team wears the tightest jerseys ive ever seen.

  57. bryan says:

hahaha that is the first thing i noticed when i saw the high lights of him coming on!!!

  58. fubar says:

I’m too sexy for my shirt, too sexy for my shirt, so sexy it hurts….

  59. Bob says:

Indeed. In fact, all of the Puma-sponsored teams from the World Cup could be in the running.

As for tighter, I submit Carlos Bocanegra in the Ghanian national jersey.

  60. Al_OC says:

LOL…I think the equipment manager still uses Beckham’s pre-injury jersey size. Just goes to show you how a long layoff can do to your body.

  61. Test says:

If u havnt noticed this season, Omar G. And Tod D. Jersey’s have been just as tight

  62. Supsam says:

Did u hear that Ives?? I think I heard Taylor Twellman throwing a chair into a window demanding where is his SBI post about his jersey.

  63. EA says:

My guess is the conversation went like this:

Equipment dude: “David, do you want the regular adidas shirt or the techfit?”

    David: “Techfit.” (Sounds cooler, right?)

    ED: “What size?”

David: “Large.” (Or whatever he normally wears.)

I bet he wears a similar one next time, but it fits way better, or he’s back to a standard jersey.

  64. nico says:

i think he wore it to make his emaciated wife look healthier.

  65. rmiller16 says:

Haha, ya Im glad Im not the only one to notice this and think it was funny.

  66. Invncbl says:

    Yeah, he must work out

  67. Wolf says:

Is a tight jersey funny? I just don’t get it.

  68. BCC says:

    Pretty funny, Ives.

I think Taylor Twellman wore tighter jerseys, but Beckham is a close second.

  69. K-Town says:

Yeah, that award would go to John Stockton of Utah Jazz fame. He held on to those nut huggers long after they went out of style.

  70. John says:

I’m actually surprised more players don’t wear their shirts tight. Especially strikers. Every time a defender gets beat the first thing they do is reach for a piece of the shirt to make up the half yard. When a striker and defender are side by side going for a ball the defender’s hand almost always has a piece of the attacker’s shirt. The problem is that no ref wants to call a penalty for a shirt tug. It’s called automatically outside of the box but inside the box the ref NEVER calls it unless the defenders gains an obscene advantage by doing so.

  71. Zack Lewis says:

All I know is that Becks is looking more and more like the old Newcastle soccer star from the movie “Goal: The Dream Begins.”

  72. Aquaman says:

Huge MMA fighters at the gym my friend trains at wear shirt sizes from Baby Gap. If I didn’t think they’d roid rage on me I’d take a picture for you guys for comparison.

  73. will says:

    maybe he’s just getting fat

  74. Josh says:

“I should’ve specified an ADULT medium!”

  75. Bo says:

That’s not a shirt, that is his new tattoo.

  76. Aristophanes says:

love the twellman love here. guy didn’t get a fair shake.

  77. joel says:

    cool article

  78. Joamiq says:

I think Beckham wins this one because at least Twellman was a strapping young lad in his skintight jersey days. This just makes Beckham look older I think. I think he needs a fashion second opinion from Posh on this one.

  79. Andrew says:

Wow. Eat your heart out Taylor Twellman.

  80. Zach says:

hahaha yes! Oh man that was funny back in the day on WSD.

  81. DadRyan says:

everyone was talking about his “short sleeves” last year when he came back from the loan. remember? He’d been known, even in hot as Efff World Cup in Germany wearing long sleeves regardless of the weather. Here he is stealing the headlines once again with not how he plays but what he’s wearing.

And all you bammas pretend like you don’t care about fashion.

  82. Andy says:

Well, then I guess I’m just gonna have to respect your sense of timing Ives…and cry myself to sleep in the meantime…

  83. JR says:

Hoooo boy. Now that is a work of art.

  84. over there says:

Humor is good. Chill out people. It was funny.

  85. Sir Loin says:

Tight jerseys aren’t funny, but one that looks entirely too small absolutely is. C’mon. Look at that. I bet that’s his son’s jersey.

  86. senevada says:

    Darren Sawatzky.

  87. Milk Me says:

Its good too see a sense of humor popping up here more often.

  88. Gulati knows nothing about football says:

becks looks like a girl. I said it.
