For the second time in as many legs, Jozy Altidore got on the scoresheet for Villarreal in the Copa del Rey.

Altidore scored the Yellow Submarine's lone goal in a 1-1 draw with Club Polideportivo Ejido in the first leg of their fourth-round tie. On Wednesday, Altidore tallied again, scoring an insurance goal in the 90th minute to ice the second-leg victory.

Altidore started and went the distance in the 2-0 result. Villarreal advanced on aggregate, 3-1, and moves to the Round of 16.

What do you think of Altidore scoring again? Hoping he gets a call up and a start in the friendly against South Africa to keep building on the momentum?

  1. Please read the previous comments people say. There are more then two negative comments. People saying they do not believe he scored, people saying come back to MLS, people saying he only scored on a div 3 team and the team he played against are not that good. Please read before you post things. I bet you are one of the Jozy haters. People please remember USA we are still a developing soccer country. For us to be in the top 20 in mens and womens rankings is amazing. 🙂

  2. Come on Paul…seriously? You are calling the guy a bad coach, so you can say you are a good one?

For the rest of you guys, as my old man used to tell me, “It does not matter how you score, they all count.” Players don’t get points for how beautiful they are. All this does is helps a forwards confidence, so he can get these and other goals.

If you want style, the goal in the 1st game was pretty nice.

  3. Yeah, it was a tap in. My issues is not with him but with B.B. Altidore is nowhere ready for senior duties. I keep hearing that he is young, my question is should he be given special treatment at the national level because of his potential rather than his actual accomplishments?

On a positive note, I’m glad BB will be giving a fresh look to some other young ones in S.A.

  4. My point is that Spanish football is the best in the world (sorry, England fans). If you are scoring goals for a top-flight team, you are among the best in the world.

Most goals result from defensive “collapses.”

  5. Maybe you’re a bad coach, and don’t realize how quickly children pick up on things… the first thing I teach my U5/U7 forwards is to run straight to the goal when they see the ball on the wings…and they do it.

  6. Ridiculous, a 5 y/o really? Why do people resort to such exaggeration? It was a nice unimpeded run that was rewarded with excellent setup, and an easy finish. Great team play. My Kindergarten teams had trouble figuring out which way to score much less thinking about making a run without the ball. IMHO Altidore kinda has them beat dontcha think?

  7. that may be true in general…but the tap in goal he scored in this game is not an example of good “running off the ball”…thats a run a 5 year old playing his first soccer game wouldve made…all he had to do is stay onside…no HATE…i love jozy but he HAD to score that goal

  8. Definitely agree. He’s using his legs, and letting his upper body strength fend for itself. Previous video suggests his touch is improving as well. Keep it up, Jozy.

  9. The goal is fine for me, but I’m more impressed to see him running off the ball and finding proper space to score in – something that has really been missing in his game…

  10. Every goal in Spain is a quality goal? I dunno about that. I’m not one of those people who expects to see Jozy be a world-beater tomorrow, and I think it’s *really* encouraging to see that he’s starting to tally with Villareal on a consistent basis. BUT, I think that maintaining perspective when he’s not scoring needs to be balanced by perspective when he does. This most recent goal came off a horrible defensive collapse–when the series was resolved beyond doubt–and would have been converted by most middle school travel team fullbacks.

  11. I am still undecided about this guy J.A in anycase he is very young (legit age) and playing in La Liga. Well have to wait and see. Im very dissapointed about EDU I have been watching Ranger games on the regular through streams and I like the guys style. He needs to get the hell out of the SPL It’s a really a horrible league.

  12. Chea Jozy. Now if it could only translate to La Liga. Maybe some of Rossi and Nilmar’s scoring magic will rub off on Jozy in the league.

  13. Let me revive the Jozy hateration….Jozy sucks. He probably scored a little tap in like he always does.

Oh yeah, this is a 3RD division team that they played against. Villareal is 1ST division. That is like the LA Galaxy playing a high school team!

    Jozy is sooo overhyped.

BTW – I saw Fulham vs. Chelsea game and Dempsey is on top of his game! His play and his shot were phenomenal. It should be a no brainer that he starts as a forward for the Nats. He and Buddle should start.

  14. It was reported in Spain (2 weeks ago) that Bob has called Alitdore for nov 17 match

P.S to the staff. Most european based players know 3 weeks ahead if they are being called by Bob for a game.

  16. False. The hate seems to be dying down somewhat (this is probably at least in part thanks to Jozy’s defenders) but it was pretty rampant for a while.

I should know b/c I have no life and am on this site all the time.

  17. he was stretchered off today, nothing more will be known until tomorrow when they do scans, exams etc. I think it was more of a knock than a twist, so hopefully not too much damage was done
