Onyewu’s injury not serious

The injury that forced American defender Oguchi Onyewu to leave Wednesday's FC Twente match against PSV Eindhoven has turned out to not be serious.

According to SBI's Avi Creditor, who spoke to Onyewu on Thursday, Onyewu suffered a muscle injury in his rib cage that will require some rest and rehab, but he isn't expected to be sidelined for an extended period of time. His status for FC Twente's match against Feyenoord remains uncertain.

Hopefully, people will ease up a bit on the “injury prone” label and just call it what it is: minor set-backs (which are normal) in a lengthy and serious injury recovery.

Now at FC Twente, Gooch will slowly get his match fitness back and his legs underneath him going towards Gold Cup.

    Word. Huge sigh of relief.

That can be a very annoying injury…

  4. Joe says:

    Yeah, just ask Jacoby Ellsbury

  5. ACS says:

Good news, if he isn’t released from Twente for the Egypt match, it would be a good chance for Whitbread to set up.

  6. patrick says:

Why would we trot out whitbread when bob just spent a month with tim ream, omar gonzales etc etc? I’d assume he rates them much higher than Whitbread, given that he’s never been called into anything….

  7. PanchoMiguelMoralesdeConejo says:

I’d bet a tall one that based on the injury and Bradley’s knowledge of Gooch, Bradley will not call him in.

A Clark-Boca pairing in central defense? (you heard it here first)

  8. ACS says:

He’s been injured for almost all of 2010, now he is finally back and starting for Norwich, one of the top teams in the Championship league, might be a good reason. He deserves a callup. I rate Whitbread right there with Goodsen.

  9. RLW2020 says:

Clark, Parkhurst, Ream, Gonzalez and Loyd all could use another CB spot.

Also speaking of the Egypt game.. any word on if the rioting/unrest in Egypt will effect the game?

    Nice scoop

  11. Lost in Space says:

Could see Parkhurst called in for RB & Loyd for another look @ LB but neither as CB. Pool of CB’s is currently Gooch, Goodson, Gonzalez, Ream, Clark, Spector, DeMerit (?), Opara (?), Boss (?), & John (?). If BB can’t find 4 CB’s to play from that pool then he is in trouble.
