FC Dallas vs. Los Angeles Galaxy: Your Running Commentary

 FC Dallas LogoLA_Primary_COL

The Los Angeles Galaxy head into Sunday on a major roll, with Landon Donovan back in form and the club rebounding well from the loss of defender Leonardo, but a road trip to Frisco, Texas awaits against a dangerous FC Dallas side (7pm, Galavision).

Dallas begins life without David Ferreira, who is out with a broken ankle. FC Dallas will be leaning heavily on Fabian Castillo and Eric Avila to help make up for the creativity lost by Ferreira's injury.

The Galaxy's defense will look to shut down the home team and increase its lead atop the Western Conference after previously-unbeaten Real Salt Lake lost on Saturday.

  1. Ed Dog says:

Barrett with the heavy feet again.

  2. C C says:

Pretty even so far. I love Avi, but you can see what Ferriera brings on the breaks that Avi doesn’t.

  3. chris says:

Why does dallas play such a defensive formation? They have attacking talent but its hard to score when you’re not playing any true strikers.

  4. Adrian says:

LA has the world’s greatest passer of this generation on the field and they have probably the worst field spacing of any MLS team.

  5. Ed Dog says:

Why didn’t the Galaxy just pay Buddle what he deserved?

  6. dcpohl says:

haha it’s halftime and there’s only 4 comments. hasn’t been a fun game to watch.

  7. Darwin says:

What formation did Schellas put out? Is Castillo alone up top and Avi filling into Ferriera’s role, or did he put out a 4-4-2?

  8. Jeremy says:

Because they didn’t have room for another DP.

  9. Clayton says:

    Gooooooooooaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllll de Castillo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Adrian says:

Was that Beckham who played that ball into Landon?

  11. Adrian says:

Beckham went for goal off the corner kick. Nice.

  12. Jason B says:

  13. chris says:

    Haha real talk buddy

  14. Andrew says:

The first. Looks to me like Castillo as a lone striker and Avila is in Ferreira’s spot.

  15. Adrian says:

    It might be raining there.

  16. AdamFromMich says:

Either that, or Hartman put in a little more gel than normal.

  17. Adrian says:

    Great, Galavision lost the feed.

  18. AdamFromMich says:

What a sloppy game. It looks like its raining hard. Both teams are having trouble maintaining possession.

  19. Matt S says:

Wait… is the game being called? Whats going on?

  20. Tony in Quakleland says:

Can someone translate what’s going on? Thanks

  21. AdamFromMich says:

Did they just call the game??

  22. ShaggyReAL says:

Lightning storm maybe? the only reason I can see them calling the game.

  23. glaing says:

    Lightning in the area.

  24. Adrian says:

For those who do NOT speak Spanish…

Game has been postponed for lightening.

  25. gerald says:

There is a strong storm about to hit the Frisco area according to the Weather Channel website

  26. Tony in Quakleand says:

Thanks. DO they expect to restart?

  27. CaliNick23 says:

From what I understand some of the lights have gone out at the venue. In addition, the storm is gathering strength (lightning) and the referee decided it was to dangerous to keep playing.

  28. glaing says:

I have an english feed (lucky me). Teams to the lockerooms to wait out the storm. Can you say 30 minutes of stoppage time.

  29. ... says:

so what happens? do they just say it was a 1-1 game, or do they replay it, or will they play the last 7 minutes at some point?

  30. ShaggyReAL says:

I think the rules state that in this case each team picks one player and they finish the game on FIFA11.

  31. ShaggyReAL says:

Im going to rent a movie, any suggestions?

  32. glaing says:

Did you ever see the movie Pelada? Every soccer fanatic should watch it.

  33. chris says:

    Human centipede

  34. Rob says:

will the game be called off?

  35. ShaggyReAL says:

I’ve heard about that movie and I don’t need any nightmares. :)

  36. Adrian says:

    Cannibal Holocaust

Disclaimer: Don’t eat food while watching.

  37. glaing says:

I DVR’d the NJ vs Boston WPS game. Not bad. Goalkeepers making nice saves.

  38. chris says:

    Ya I couldn’t finish it

  39. ... says:

according to FC Dallas’s twitter, teams are back on the field. 10 minutes to warm up and then they’ll play the rest of the game.

  40. brian says:

Whats the link for the game online?

  41. Clayton says:

Here we go. C’mon Dallas – time to steal 3 points!

  42. Clayton says:

    Whhaaaa!!!!???? Shea!!!!!

  43. brunomarmos7 says:

    Yeah! Shea!!!!!

  44. Ed Dog says:

They used the DP slot to sign JPA instead of re-signing Buddle. Do some homework.

  45. Snare says:

Since I don’t have Twitter this is the only way I can say thank you to you Ives for posting on twitter (which thankfully is on the side tab of your web site) the great news about Osama Bin Ladin. If not then I would not have heard the great news since I don’t watch any major news networks.

  46. BigLustythongGrl says:

cannibal ferox too. one of the greatest cannibal films ever made. As for Pelada, can that be rented now? I doubt it. By the way, the Galaxy WERE ROBBED!!!!
They totally had the momentum before the ref stopped play. Was that Toledo? And yes, they should’ve paid Buddle DP-type dough given that he had scoring proweress with Columbus before LA.

  47. three11stu says:

    Major +1

  48. blah-zay says:

I saw some of the highlights on MLSsoccer and at first I thought there was a fan match ban because the stadium looked completely empty. But then I realized it was raining and people don’t usually like to watch soccer in the rain.

  49. Raymon says:

I was there. It was raining on and off all night. At around the 60th minute or so, the PA announcer said that they were expecting heavy rains in 20 minutes. The score was tied 1-1, with that fantastic Castillo goal, and the go-for-broke-wrap-your-body-around-the-post goal from LD. So I guess people figured that they had seen 2 goals already and the game was only going to get sloppier. Players were falling on the run, especially those with a “high center of gravity” (Shea). When the clouds opened up, and the game was paused, thats when everyone left. It was sold out, people watched in the rain. Just not in the monsoon. Great result for FCD. Welcome to Dallas Mr. Castillo.

  50. Istan says:

Lame stoppage with less than 8 minutes to go…This isn’t baseball. Very amateurish move. The rhythm of the match was lost. Then Arena subs out Beckham and Angel for Birchell and Kirovski…Bloody Brilliant!

  51. TommyOC says:

Beckham’s Achilles injury requires him to undergo extensive warm-up prior to a match and to stay “hot” during halftime, or his mobility goes out the window. An hour’s delay all but ensured that he wouldnt be re-taking the field again.

And Angel was just ineffective all game. Kirovski was an improvement at the time.
