Soccer Saturday: Your Running Commentary

If you had asked people before the English Premier League season which teams would still be unbeaten at the start of November, not many would have said Newcastle, but there the Magpies are, sitting near the top of the table with a zero in the loss column.

Tim Howard and Everton will try to hand Alan Pardew's squad that first loss in the opening match of today's busy schedule of action. The other unbeaten team in England, Manchester City, travels to Queens Park Rangers, where they will look to beat the same QPR side that defeated Chelsea at home just two weeks ago. In Manchester, Sir Alex Ferguson marks the 25th anniversary of his time as manager of Manchester United, who face Sunderland.

On the Americans Abroad front, Michael Orozco will be in action as San Luis takes on Toluca, while Sonny Guadarrama will look to build on his successful appearance last week when Atlante faces Monterrey.

If you will be watching today's action, please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

  1. LOL says:

O/T but isn’t Community the funniest show on tv?

  2. grey's anatomy says:

Is Brad Friedel the greatest GK in the history of the PL or is it Peter Schmeichel or Edwin van Der Sar?

  3. chris says:

Haha demba ba wearin an orlando magic hat. I like that.

  4. grey's anatomy says:

WE need to start exporting our players to Holland and Scandinavia to learn the trade of football

  5. jfnffnnf4j45jjj3jxn ekjektktktktkykyky says:

Clint Dempsey to leave Fulham next summer for a CL team. Trust me

  6. Matt S says:

Come on Newcastle! Show everyone that it isn’t a fluke that we’re in the top 4!

  7. MSNats says:

    Those Everton kits are bananas.

  8. Citronomics says:

    I’d say more Honey Mustard.

  9. MSNats says:

I think Timmy’s camo top just assisted in Heitinga’s own goal.

  10. chris says:

Everton should really be doing better this season they have a strong squad despite having no money

  11. jfnffnnf4j45jjj3jxn ekjektktktktkykyky says:

good time to pickup some American players in MLS. Cheap

  12. Citronomics says:

Ouch. Timmy could do nothing on that one. Lazy marking by Everton.

  13. francois says:

Oh my God, what a great strike from Ryan Taylor. Top drawer for sure.

  14. Johnathan says:

How much can Newcastle spend in comparison to Everton?? That’s why I hate teams like everton… don’t blame the system for you’re owner’s incompetence in the transfer market and unwillingness to spend wisely. It’s one thing to argue that you can’t win the league if you can’t spend, but I believe we see a newcastle team doing quite well and they can’t have that much of a bigger purse than everton seeing that they’re still coming back from the fiasco that was the past 3 years for them.

  15. T says:

    newcastle’s got nice kits…

  16. away goals says:

ummm, what? Nobody’s purse is as small as everton’s right now. Everton’s purse, along with all it’s contents, has actually been seized by the bank.

Newcastle deserve credit for spending wisely, but they do have funds to work with.

  17. hogatroge says:

I’d rate Parks & Rec and The League higher. But I do like Community.

  18. hogatroge says:

I’d say we need to start importing more Dutch and Scandinavian assistant coaches over the next decade to teach MLS-based American players some new things.

  19. This Guy says:

Newcastle 93 million pounds over last 5 years
Everton 62 million pounds over last 5 years

Newcastle are big spenders, only 6 teams have spent more while Everton is near the bottom in spending. In fact, the Magpies have spent more that Arsenal over the last 5 years.

  20. ManicMessiah says:

Ryan Taylor’s goal was fantastic. Newcastle weren’t great but you can’t ask for anything more than 3 points. 2nd in the league, unbelievable.

That said, Newcastle fans must be a bit conflicted. If Sunderland get something from Man United they will go into international break 2nd. I suppose I can root for a draw.

  21. Kevin_Amold says:

  22. This Guy says:

All that while relegated and in financial trouble

  23. Kevin_Amold says:

Seamus Coleman had a terrible game. He presented next to no danger. Time to get a different winger, perhaps one that is known and liked by the Goodison faithful. Perhaps one that is plying his trade on another continent.

  24. jfnffnnf4j45jjj3jxn ekjektktktktkykyky says:

seriously? it’s very under-rated in my opinion. I love it. Very geeky humor

  25. radi0ead says:

anyone have a good stream of the arsenal match?

  26. ian says:

LS hunter tv. Then I found out it was on Fox Deportes, so I got it on TV en espanol!

  27. Louis Z says:

can someone confirm if the new kid Adrian Morales scored this morning, there seems to be some conflict who scored.

  28. radi0ead says:

i did exactly the same haha. was searching for a stream until i saw it on Deportes. Come on you Gunners!

  29. radi0ead says:

Alfredo Morales? I believe he wasnt even on the bench for Hertha.

  30. Louis Z says:

Alfrdo, that is right. soccernet game cast has it him scoring in the 18th but other fans don’t think he was in the game.

  31. fischy says:

    It’s definitely not Friedel.

  32. fischy says:

He;s some kind of magician, then.

  33. fischy says:

    What’s the Mata with Chelsea?

  34. away goals says:

You owe all of us an apology.

  35. uuyhbbnnnggg says:

does anyone believe Clint will stay at Fulham or move to a CL team next year?

  36. Louis Z says:

either that or I need a new pair of glasses.

  37. KEEP says:

Give him a few weeks and another MLS Championship. He will be back at Everton and likely playing better soccer than he has since the World Cup. LD needs the added pressure to get that fire burning again and I’m sure he’s more than welcome back in blue….with the right price-tag.

  38. Vic says:

I would say its 60%-40% he stays.

  39. fischy says:

I dunno — that’s where I keep my socks and underwear. Is that high praise?

  40. fischy says:

Torres! Hooray! It takes talent to miss like that.

  41. fischy says:

For the bad pun, or because Mata ended up being the MOTM?

  42. away goals says:

Whenever you ask that question, the answer is always the pun.

    I like mata.

  43. Predicto says:

Moyes is listening to you: link to

  44. neill says:

I don’t know if I’d agree that their squad’s any good. IMO, they only have two players who are reliably above average at their positions: Baines and Howard. If Fellani ever gets his game together, that would be 3. They’re thin-to-nonexistent everywhere else, with a number of players who have clearly regressed over the last couple of years (Heitinga).

  45. Predicto says:

Bedoya got on the field as a sub today for Rangers. He looked active & attacking in his short time out there. Hope for more now that Naismith is gone.

  46. CGold says:

Fabian Hurzeler received a call to a German U19 camp, that’s why he wasn’t on the u23-u20 roster..

  47. VADCUfan says:

Not so much in creating this team though. They picked up Demba Ba on a free transfer, Cabaye for 6-8 mil lbs, Santon for like 8-10 mil, and most of the rest have been with the club for a while. You can’t really compare the quality of the 2011-2012 NUFC vs 2011-2012 Everton FC by looking back at expenditures over the past 5 years, because neither spent a ton to assemble their current rosters. In fact NUFC sold almost all of their expensive impact players this past summer.

  48. Reggie says:

    Donovan is staying, eurogeek!

  49. Jo says:

    we need to eliminate eurosnobs!

  50. Mark says:

These games blow…They should have CL games on the weekend

  51. Dimidri says:

    Scandanavian coaches yes!!!! Hans Backe!

  52. CrispyST3 says:

Sky sports is reporting that Brek Shea will go on a month long training stint with Arsenal!

  53. Mental Assassin says:

    The League is pretty amazing

  54. adub says:

man there aint sh*t going on today…

  55. Spectra says:

Yeah SBI had it a few days ago

  56. francois says:

Well my junk is the most important extremity to me, and my boxers are hand-picked for comfortability, so in my mind it is. Although, everyone is different haha

  57. marco says:

    think Wrongen

  58. Dimidri says:

Is the SKC-Houston game tomorrow going to be FSC’s last MLS game for a very, very, long time?

  59. KEEP says:

Eurogeek? Really??!!The only games I’m actually looking forward to are Sunday night son.

  60. AS Rome says:

Yes, NBC contact kicks in soon…Hope they have good announcers though

  61. CE says:

his comment wasnt snobbish, yours was

  62. CE says:

thomas rongen was a great coach, good example.

  63. CE says:

see the original comment by jonathan and this guys comments may make more sense. comparing quality of the squad to price of the players is kinda circular logic, newcastle can spend more.

  64. nbluck says:

just a pipe dream…as established earlier in the thread everton have no cash to pony up to MLS for a landon transfer. unfortunate
