The German Bundesliga kicks back into full gear this weekend, and with it could come a direct head-to-head duel between a pair of U.S. men's national team players.
Steve Cherundolo and Fabian Johnson could do battle when Hannover 96 and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim resume their Bundesliga campaigns on Saturday. Should Cherundolo start, he would be given the assignment of marking the creative Johnson, who is likely to be deployed at left back or on the left side of the midfield.
Another match with intrigue for American fans is Tottenham Hotspur's road game versus league-leading Manchester City. Brad Friedel will aim for his third shutout in the club's last four league games as he and the Spurs try to cut the the five-point deficit City currently holds. Zak Whitbread will also be assigned with containing a star-studded offense when Norwich City faces Chelsea. Whitbread will be aiming to make his tenth appearance of the season in a game the Canaries enter as the underdogs.
