SBI MLS Best XI: Week 6

It isn't often that you see Chivas USA dominate a Best XI side, but the team's latest road victory helped three Goats earn honors in SBI's MLS Best XI.

Goalkeeper Dan Kennedy, defender Heath Pearce and midfielder Oswaldo Minda lead this week's Best XI selections, while FC Dallas teammates Blas Perez and Brek Shea also garnered places among the league's best this week.

One familiar face on the squad is Chris Wondolowski, who earned another spot for his efforts in San Jose's 2-2 draw against the New York Red Bulls.

The Philadelphia Union didn't have any players make our Best XI for Week 6, but the Union did see four players earn Honorable Mention nods this week.

Here is SBI's MLS Best XI for Week 6:

  1. Tony in Quakeland says:

Okay, so, why hasn’t Rafa been suspended yet?

  2. ec says:

I think Freddy Adu was on his way to a best XI shift, that was a weird sub by Novak

  3. Dimidri says:

Am I the only one who thinks Dan Kennedy deserves to be the third goalkeeper for the World Cup Qualifiers in June? Rimando’s great, I guess Hamid/Johnson are the future, but god, this guy is good and has been that way for a long enough time now its not just ‘form’.

  4. Bryan says:

    Dax, seriously?

I don’t know what people see in him.

(SBI-McCarty had a good game. Not a Best XI game, but a good game, worthy of Honorable Mention.)

  5. coop says:

WHERE ARE THE DYNAMO!?!? The Fire needed Lightning storms to get ONE point off of us! BIASED! Thor is a Fire fan.

  6. RLW2020 says:

+1 Behind Howard is Guzan but the third spot should be Kennedy or Rimando. Johnson and Hamid are not ready and really haven’t been great in club ball.

although the 3rd GK is largely irrelevant and would hurt their club if called.

  7. David St. Hubbins says:

    Replace Espinoza with Rafael Baca.

    And I only count 10 names…

  8. Air Jordanz says:

He certainly needs a look. After the U23 debacle, I don’t know if I’d entrust important games to Hamid or Johnson as the #3.

  9. Air Jordanz says:

As a Dynamo fan, I thought Nat Sturgis was really solid. MotM for the Dynamo (IMO).

Nobody on either side in that game was Best XI material this week, though.

  10. Air Jordanz says:

Jermaine Taylor was pretty solid, too.

  11. Tony in Quakeland says:

You can not be a fan of the Mighty Midget, and I’m not, while still agreeing he had a good game. He did, included a well taken goal

  12. pd says:

Cause he’s a DP that plays in NY who used to play for Barca…

  13. coop says:

yeah I was being a little facetious. I do feel like the Dynamo were pressing more when the game was called. Felt like we would have won it.

  14. ELAC says:

I’m liking the Goat love. Oh, wait.

  15. boosted335 says:

John had a better game then Pearce, Valdes, or Shea! He must have fallen of your radar early this season which is understandable but he’s taken back his starting spot and has proceeded to ball. Take note.

  16. 2tone says:

Put Cooper in the starting 11 and Wondo in the honorable mention. Cooper a goal and an assist beats Wondos performance.

(SBI-Wrong. Value of performances aren’t based solely on those two stats. And let’s be real. Cooper’s goal was set up by a perfect pass that gave him a clear look at goal from close range. His “assist” was a cross that hit his foot before reaching Dax McCarty. He hardly created the goal. Wondolowski put in considerably more work to help San Jose get the draw than Cooper did. You can disagree, but you’ll need a better argument than “Cooper had an assist so he had a better game”.)

  17. wickedgimp says:

Osvaldo Alonso should have a permanent home in the best XI. The man is a beast in midfield.

  18. marco says:

He’s certainly saving Sigi’s arse as they have no offense.

  19. strider says:

Typically the 3rd goalkeeper is not even on the bench in a big tourney unless keeper #1 or #2 are injured during the tourney. That’s why you typically see really young #3 keepers.

  20. bbaltrus says:

Where is Sheanon Williams? He played centerback and dominated players 4 inches taller. Not even honorable mention?

  21. Soulgoal says:

DeLeon was shut down by a face-masked Kevin Alston for the entire game until he nodded a header to Pontius. Not a Best XI performance.
