Fighting Irish centerback Grant Van De Casteele headed home a Dillon Powers corner kick in the 71st minute to give SBI No.5-ranked Notre Dame a 1-0 victory over No. 12-ranked Indiana on Wednesday night in Bloomington.
Notre Dame's defense shut down Indiana's attack, limiting the Hoosiers (6-2-1) to just one shot on goal on their way to their fifth shutout of the season.
Indiana will look to rebound on Saturday when they take on No. 21 Penn State. Notre Dame returns to action on Saturday against No. 2-ranked UConn in a clash of Big East powerhouses.
In other, No. 9 Marquette needed double overtime to maintain their perfect record, riding a golden goal from Andy Huftalin to beat Wisconsin, 2-1, on Tuesday night. The Golden Eagles (9-0) opened the scoring in the first half with a goal from Sebastian Jansson, but Wisconsin notched a second-half equalizer from Nick Janus to make force overtime.
The upset of the night came in Chicago, where DePaul handed No. 13 Northwestern their first loss of the season in a 2-0 victory. Senior Antonio Aguilar scored both goals for the Blue Demons
