Sad Ronaldo reveals unhappiness after recent match

After becoming the tenth player in Real Madrid history to score 150 goals with the club, Cristiano Ronaldo seemed to show a lack of enthusiasm, and admitted as much after the match that he refused to celebrate the milestone. The Portuguese star spoke with reporters following the 3-0 win over Granada, and voiced his displeasure with his current status with the club.

"I am sad, and the club knows why. That is why I did not celebrate the goals," he said to reporters. "I am not happy. The people [at Real Madrid] know why."

This comes just days after Barcelona's Andres Iniesta won the UEFA Best Player in Europe award at the Champions League draw in Monaco. A finalist along with Iniesta and Iniesta's Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi, Ronaldo seemed visibly upset on stage after failing to win.

But Ronaldo made sure it be known that his displeasure is not for that reasoning, stating "It's nothing to do with Iniesta. I won't talk about this any more and I will concentrate on Portugal for now. There are more important things."

"If I won I would not have been surprised, if I lost I would have not been surprised," he added. "I am fine about that. Iniesta won, and he deserved it."

Ronaldo's current contract runs through the 2014-2015 season. But having seen teammates Angel di Maria, Alvaro Arbeola, and Raul Albiol recently sign contract extensions, along with manager Jose Mourinho, a contract dispute could very well be the cause of Ronaldo's issues with the club.

Teammate Kaka recently spoke with reporters, stating the team is standing behind its star.

"Cristiano is a key player for Real Madrid, and he knows that he has the full support of the team," said Kaka. "The most important thing is that he is feeling well and is happy because he is very important for us. We will all support him."

For now, Ronaldo mentions that he will place his focus on the upcoming World Cup qualifiers for his home country of Portugal, who are slated to take on Luxembourg on Friday, and Azerbaijan next Tuesday.

Real Madrid returns to action on Saturday, September 15th at Sevilla.

What are your thoughts on Ronaldo's comments? Do you see him possibly asking his way out of Madrid? Think it's just a ploy for him to get a new contract?

    Freaking prima donna.

God I can’t stand this guy. It’s like those people who post vague begging statements on Facebook about something that happened in their life and then refuse to talk about it.

  2. Kevin_Amold says:

This picture and headline combination is amazing.

  3. Heft says:

Ronaldo is one of the hardest working players in football today. He is super competitive, so I’d imagine that he is concerned about contract extensions being offered to players besides him.

  4. Path says:

Who does this guy think he is? Clint Dempsey?

  5. McQ says:

I watched the ceremony and what immediately struck me was that he didn’t shake either Iniesta’s or Messi’s hand when they came up on stage, he just stood up there with a scowl. (Messi and Iniesta both shook hands)

  6. Boris says:

The reason he was sa is because Madrid made him play on the anniversary of the death of his dad, 7 years ago. Stop talking crap if you don’t know the story. He’s not a prima Donna

  7. Dave says:

Can’t Crissy just buy another man purse and make himself happy again?

  8. mmv says:

He’s a whiny little baby. What on Earth could be possibly be angry about? He plays for one of the best clubs in the world, lives in an amazing city of Madrid, scores a butt load of goals for club and country, is one of the riches footballers on the planet, and is a global superstar. I get that he’s an arrogant, spoiled brat, many athletes are but I’m sick of this guy’s lack of humility. It’s not that hard. Hell, it’s not that hard to fake but he should just get off his high horse.

  10. Tyler says:

Madrid may have already lost the La Liga title with their awful start and they pay Ronaldo circa 20 million dollars a year to keep up with Barcelona and you think he deserves the right to not play over something that happened 7 years earlier?

    Please. Get off your knees.

  11. Tres says:

“Stop talking crap if you don’t know the story.”

Um… how are we supposed to know the story? How do YOU know the story?

  12. ViC El Paso Texas says:

the lebron james of soccer which, soccer has many lebron james types but cristiano is one of a kind barbie. In reality I just like his speed but his skills and soccer leadership are not so good. In the EPL he was really tested but in LaLiga, he only gets tested twice a year versus barcelona. But I cant wait until Cristiano joins the Cosmos in MLS because once Cosmos join MLS, Galaxy and Red Bull will have competition for DPs. Hopefully Seattle, Chicago, can step up for high caliber Dps like Cristiano. The rest like Dc to Portland should also step up to the game but if the major markets dont flex their money and market, then tell Garber to raise the salary cap and forget about parity because not even seattle or teams like salt lake want to take advantage of it.

  13. Path says:

Dude needs to get married to somebody that keeps him grounded….kind of like Elton John did.

  14. Michael Stypulkoski says:

This is one of the stupidest comments I’ve ever seen on this or any other website. “He’s rich, famous, and talented – he has no right to be unhappy with anything in his life!”

  15. NE REVS says:

He still looks like Ed from Ed Edd n Eddy

  16. Jon says:

    This. So much this.

  17. Spectra says:

“Winning is a habit, and unfortunately so is losing” – Vince Lombardi

I can never understand why people get mad at others for being upset at losing. You know who enjoys losing? LOSERS

  18. PD says:

    wah. just….. wah.

  19. Heft says:

This is interesting. Is it true?

  20. bcoug says:

I agree with Boris … no more speculation or discussion on the Internet unless you’ve independently researched and verified all information first, including any possible information not made available or even alluded to in the article you’re commenting on.

  21. Brett says:

Clearly he is upset because Madrid keep blocking his move to MLS. He wants to come stay at the beach with Landon Donovan and Becks.

  22. soccerjohn says:

    pet·u·lant /ˈpeCHələnt/
Adjective: (of a person or their manner) Childishly sulky or bad-tempered. See: Ronaldo.

  23. Seriously says:

Messi and Iniesta play on the same team. Ronaldo is on their biggest rival and there is no love lost between those squads, to the point where people often wonder if the Spanish players can play together for Spain at times.

Not really a huge surprise Ronaldo would not shake their hands but they shook each others.

  24. Seriously says:

This post is all over the place. Congrats on managing to weave so much into such a nonsensical post.

  25. SoCalDopeswag says:

    mmv = idiot

  26. Rlw2020 says:

Its just too easy to hate him. He is like a-rod a few years ago.

  27. JRP says:

    Not worth a comment.

  28. JRP says:

Maybe he and Becks can both sell underwear in the MLS. Maybe then Americans will begin to like the sport. Two underwear models is better than one.

  29. JRP says:

You also forgot to mention he is one of the best 10 players in the world.

  30. The Spanish players appear to have no problems playing with each other at all. Have you checked the results of major competitions in the past six years?

  31. AL says:

    Consider it done!!!

  32. Artie says:

He’s probably sad because he has to come home to Irina Shayk each day. Imagine dating a former SI swimsuit issue cover model. That must be miserable!

  33. Mike r says:

Wah Wah Wah ! Have the wet nurse feed him

  34. Old School says:

You’re saying Ronaldo is a “loser”? Are you new to watching the game?

  35. coop says:

It wouldn’t be football if Ronaldo wasn’t crying about something.

  36. Jake the Snake says:

With all his whinny you’d think he’s American.

  37. shake says:

I don’t think you have any reading comprehension skills. You might be “old school” but you really ought to be “back to school,” as you lack the basic ability to understand very well formulated statements.

  38. Heft says:

I think Ronaldo would make a fabulous American.

  39. Kevin_Amold says:

This is a good point. Maybe she is a vapid dope and his conversations with her aren’t as intellectually stimulating as CR7 has come to expect.

  40. Lorenzo says:

He may be whinny, I’m not sure. I am soley loyal to Americans, but my wifes family is off the boat portuguese. If he isn’t perfect he is like a dissapointment to the whole country. Kind of sucks for him when the forwads in front of him (Oliveria, and Prostiga) are so-so.

He had a good tournament but all people talked about after the loss to Spain was him not taking a penalty kick. If he doesn’t score a 10 he scores a 0 to a lot of people in his home country. They want him to fill the shoes of their entire golden generation.

  41. Lorenzo says:

Tried that with Ljunberg. (Studio wouldn’t accept Blanco’s photos)

  42. Will says:

I heard he was mad because he asked for a swap to Barcelona with Messi going to Madrid. He’s bought the argument that the only reason Messi is any good is Xavi and Iniesta and he figures he can score 100 goals a year.

  43. guy says:

awww poor wahnaldo. poor wittle baby

  44. Leonardo says:

  45. Tyrone says:

Though that has nothing to do with the joke he is making, so why would he mention that?

  46. bryan says:

he’s mad because he asked for rest to honor his dad’s death, which was 7 years ago (his death birthday for anyone who likes Orange County), and the club refused. so he was upset.

  47. bcoug says:

While they all play in Spain for their clubs, only Iniesta in your list “plays for Spain.”
