Big East Championship has been moved from Red Bull Arena to PPL Park

The Big East Championship semifinal and final, originally scheduled to be played at Red Bull Arena, have been moved to PPL Park, in Chester, Pa.

Sources have told SBI that the two Big East Tournament semifinals, scheduled for Friday, and the final, scheduled for Sunday, will now be played at PPL Park because of the issues the area around Red Bull Arena still face in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, and with the threat of another storm hitting the area on Wednesday night.

(UPDATE- The Philadelphia Union have confirmed the schedule change.)

SBI No. 4 UConn will take on No. 5-ranked Notre Dame in one semifinal, while SBI No. 8 Marquette and No. 6 Georgetown will square off in the other semifinal. The semifinals will be played at 5pm and 7:30pm on Friday, with the final set for Sunday at Noon.

The Big East Tournament semifinal and final were already set to be played at PPL Park in 2013, but will now make its way to Pennsylvania a year early.

  1. college has more flexibility than MLS. hope all goes well for the NY DC game. trust me it sucks to be without power for 13 days after a storm. down here it was still toastie in Sept of 08 after ike. up there is freaking cold. i certainly feel for what is going on up there, it really sucks.
