Saturday College Rewind: Marquette secures Big East semi spot, Charlotte wins A-10, and more

Three places in the Big East Tournament semifinals were booked on Saturday, with Georgetown, Marquette and Notre Dame all securing places in Friday’s semis at Red Bull Arena.

SBI No. 7 Notre Dame rallied from a halftime deficit on the road to secure a 4-2 quarterfinal victory against Syracuse. Freshman midfielder Patrick Hodan stole the show for the Fighting Irish, recording two goals and an assist to secure Notre Dame a place in the semis, where they will meet the winner of Sunday’s UConn-Villanova quarterfinal.

The Cardinals came into the match riding an eight-match unbeaten streak, but the Golden Eagles rode a standout performance from goalkeeper Charlie Lyon, who recorded a career-high 10 saves to preserve the victory.

In other action, No. 11 Charlotte secured the Atlantic-10 regular season title with a 1-0 victory against George Washington, while No. 2 Akron and No. 7 Coastal Carolina both kept their lengthy winning streaks alive courtesy of close 1-0 victories.
