Despite talks around the league to the contrary, Chelsea officials have stated that they have no plans on losing Ashley Cole in January. The veteran defender, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the year, has had some discussions with his current club about a contract extension. Cole has made it clear he wants a long-term extension, after having declined a one-year contract earlier this year.

Rumors have spread that several clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United, have their eye on Cole if he hits the open market. Despite those rumors, Chelsea remains confident they will be able to re-sign the 31-year old Cole, who has been with the club since 2006, after recording their first profitable year since Roman Abramovich took over the club in 2003.

Theo Walcott may miss upcoming friendly vs. Sweden due to injury

After suffering what has been termed as a “glute muscle injury” by Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger, forward Theo Walcott may miss England’s friendly against Sweden on Wednesday. Walcott was substituted out of the match in the closing minutes following the injury.

Those closing minutes were vital, as Arsenal pursued a game-winning goal against Fulham after failing to hold them off with a 2-0 lead. The match ended with a missed penalty kick by Mikel Arteta in the final seconds, causing the match to end in a 3-3 draw. Wenger felt his team “lacked urgency” throughout the match, as they sit in 7th place in the Premier League standings with 16 points.

Following a MLS Cup championship last season, Beckham was said to be pursuing possibly playing elsewhere such as Brazil or France. However, he ended up signing a 2-year contract with the Galaxy to return to MLS.

The Galaxy continue their pursuit of back-to-back MLS Cup titles tomorrow night, as they host the Seattle Sounders from the Home Depot Center.

Pep Guardiola eying his return to coaching

After stepping down as Barcelona head coach at the end of last season, Pep Guardiola has been the number one target for many teams this year, even teams that are having a successful year. According to Guardiola’s agent, several clubs, including AC Milan, Chelsea, and Manchester City are all amongst the possible destinations for the Spanish coach.

The speculation has become so rampant, that AC Milan has already issued a statement clarifying that they have had no contact with Guardiola or any of his representatives. Despite this, he has consistently stated that he will not be making any decisions until summer of next year.
