UEFA Champions League: Your Running Commentary

The main question on everyone’s mind in the run up to Barcelona vs. Paris Saint-Germain (2:45pm, Fox Soccer Channel) is “will Lionel Messi play?”

The Argentine limped off the field at half time of the first leg and hasn’t played since, but Barcelona boss Tito Vilanova announced on Tuesday that whether Messi plays will be determined just before the teams arrive at the Camp Nou. (He is on the bench today).

If he doesn’t play, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and PSG will be liking their chances of stealing a result on the road.

The wildcard match of the day will take place in Turin, Italy, when Juventus hosts Bayern Munich (2:45pm, Fox Soccer Plus/MSG+). Juventus forward Mirko Vucinic found his scoring boots last Saturday, scoring twice in his side’s win, but Bayern Munich are nearly unbeatable this season, and have not failed to win on the road since mid-November.

Juventus will be a bit shorthanded as they look to reverse a 2-0 aggregate scoreline against the newly crowned Bundesliga champions. Arturo Vidal and Sebastian Giovinco two of four players who will miss out on the all-important second leg match for the Italian side.

This just in: Ancelloti is a really good coach. I never wanted him fired at Chelsea and the way he very quickly gelled the mixed-bag of purchased players is pretty amazing. And even stranger, Ibra actually looks like he’s enjoying the game.

  3. Mig says:

Oh my, game on. What pace on that attack and Pastore started the play too which makes it all the sweeter.

  4. Francois says:

Pastore! Brilliant one touch play with Ibrahimovic in the midfield to spring him in on goal, then finishes! Yesssssss!

  5. RB says:

    This is some match…

  6. Barca Tonight! says:

goal goal gol gol gol goooooooollllll!!!!!!!!!!

  7. ed - houston says:

PSG , the new rich kids on the block, following in the footsteps of Chelsea and ManCity. 10 minutes to go. Hold it Barcelona hold it.

    • RB says:

By the skin of their teeth

    • Mig says:

They held it. Advanced without winning which is always depressing to see.

And if you look at the salaries on Barca…they are not exactly Scunthorpe when it comes to wages or overall budget. 😉

One step closer to dethroning Chelsea, Champions of Europe.

      • Keeping_The_Brek_Shea_Faith says:

This game is the epitome of Barca’s “dominance.”
Lions share of possession but precious few goals to show for it.
Didn’t win either game, but still advance.
Barcelona are the most boring team in football today. Yawn.

        • Nate Dollars says:

i’m not a barca lover by any means, but comments like these grate on me (and i guess that’s the point, since this guy is just trolling).

if you’re complaining about a low amount of goals and the existence of tie-games, you’re probably watching the wrong sport.

  8. Chuck says:

Ok I’m going to say it away goal rule is stupid.

  9. G. Bean says:

I’ll have to root for BVB in the next round.
