On a hot and humid day in Toronto, finishing ability wasn’t the only thing not in attendance at BMO Field.
A short-handed Toronto FC, playing without their two best forwards Robert Earnshaw and Danny Koevermans, failed to finish a handful of chances inside the box, though the visiting New York Red Bulls didn’t play well in the midfield and attacking third either.
Both sides struggled throughout to establish a rhythm, and the two settled for a 0-0 draw on Saturday afternoon. The result comes just seven days after the Red Bulls put a beat down on the Montreal Impact, who were in first place at the time.
TFC took advantage of numerous turnovers in the midfield and defensive third by the Red Bulls, but the strike duo of Justin Braun and Jeremy Brockie failed to take advantage. Jamison Olave bailed the visitors out in a number of situations, stopping shots from TFC’s Doneil Henry and a close range chance from Jonathan Osorio.
Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles made arguably the play of the game, when he made an acrobatic mid-air save on a Richard Eckersley shot in the 73rd minute.
