USA vs. Jamaica (SBI Live Match Commentary)

The U.S. Men’s National Team takes on Jamaica today at Sporting Park in Kansas City in World Cup qualifying (6:30pm, ESPN), and while the Americans have already qualified, there is still plenty on the line.

Jurgen Klinsmann has called in a full-strength squad to take on Jamaica in the last USMNT home qualifier of the Hexagonal Round of qualifying. The Americans are a perfect 4-0 at home this round, and will look to maintain their hold atop the qualifying group with a victory.

Jamaica is technically still alive in qualifying, but will need a miracle to climb out of the basement.

Here is SBI’s preview of tonight’s match.

  1. Dirk McQuigley says:

ESPN FC just announced the starting lineup. JK is going with a 4-4-2:

    Altidore AJ

    Donovan Jones Diskerud Bedoya

    Beasley Besler Cameron Evans

  2. Rich says:

Glad to see AJ in the line up. He an Altidore looked so good together last time. This will give us a chance to see if that was a one time event.

  3. Nate Dollars says:

gotta say, i really like this lineup. hope they show well.

    • RP says:

Agreed. This is pretty much what i wanted to see… I wonder how much is experimental in the sense that if the opponent was panama or the WC still to be played for, would be different.

  4. Kingsly Alexander - Sankt Pauli - Platonias says:

    Yessssss. A fanboy’s dream of a lineup

  5. Andrew says:

You have to love what Klinsi is doing with this lineup. Compared to the days of Danny Williams on the wing, this is so much more fun.

  6. Liz says:

I hope Wondo gets playing time. Seeing him do his thing gets me all hot and bothered.

  7. Kingsly Alexander - Sankt Pauli - Platonias says:

Roger Espinoza and Izaguirre are both beasts, I have to say. Honduras just needs an in form Bengston and they’ll do some damage.

Maybe Houston can swing a trade for Bengston. You’d have to think they’d do some damage with him, Oscar Boniek Garcia and Alex Lopez on the field

  8. John says:

I like the line up however for me the biggest question will be how Jones handles this roll. Many times we’ve seen him roam and really get over run in the midfield when he has to drop in deeper to start the attack. I hope Kljestan gets some minutes and perhaps Boyd in the second half.

  9. Atletico Man says:

Also on UniMas in Spanish with better announcers.

  10. Kingsly Alexander - Sankt Pauli - Platonias says:

Omg Evans is gonna get burned all day

    • Little Chicho says:

It’s already happening. The Unimas analyts said that beckermans best days are behind him

  11. Joamiq says:

Love the lineup – let’s see how it fares…

  12. Phil B says:

I’ve gotta say, I really dislike the commercialism of sports these days. How awful are those McDonald’s kits the kids are wearing?

  13. Shawn Wallace says:

best linup, but if only if we had gonzo with cameron rb

  14. TomG says:

Spectacular first touch by bacon. I don’t think he’s a consistent ball striker yet, though.

  15. TomG says:

Jozy’s trying to do too much instead of playing the little balls he’s usually good at. He needs to relax and settle in.

  16. ThatKidNandez says:

    Subs :Castillo, Boyd, and Klejstan

    • Kingsly Alexander - Sankt Pauli - Platonias says:

Yeah you have to think Beasley will get gased chasing the Jamaicans so Castillo will come on. Orozco might come on for Evans as well.

  17. petedx says:

Altidore’s touch and passing has been pretty horrible.

    • Kingsly Alexander - Sankt Pauli - Platonias says:

Horrible! Absolutely. This diamond should be working, but it’s all off because Diskerud and Jones aren’t there.

    • TomG says:

Yes, much worse than usual, though ditto for LD, Mixx and Bedoya. Most of the team has been downright sloppy. The pitch is apparently horrible but even so, they should be much cleaner.

    • Janson says:

Sub Jozy for Wondo. I think a particular poster might like Wondo’s touch better.

  18. ThatKidNandez says:

Geez the US has been chasing jamaica the whole time.

  19. petedx says:

Also mic’d cappos are the worst, it makes it look and sound like amateur hour, or this guy….

    link to

  20. Marty says:

Go USA!!!!!!!! Don’t forget Klinsmann, throw in that bum Orozco for Panama game.

  21. Kingsly Alexander - Sankt Pauli - Platonias says:

Damn good ball from Johansson to Bedoya

  22. biff says:

Can we pleez see Geoff Cameron in the second half at right back, his club position. Evans is a midfielder, not a right back, and it is showing.

Will say that the Reggae Boyz are looking good with their new German coach. They are technically very good.

  23. biff says:

Why are the newest comments on the SBI Live Match Commentary box posted on the bottom, which is the smart way to do it, while the newest fan comments are posted at the top of the page, which is not the smart way to do it? Just asking.

  24. Bac says:

Jermaine Jones doesn’t look right. He’s not playing bad, not playing good..
I bet his knee is worse than he’s let on
    He just doesn’t look right

  25. JRP says:

So, this is the lineup all you Beckerman haters wanted. Sure wish we had some actual possession in the midfield.

    • ed from houston says:

      he still sucks

      • Citronomics says:

Should he be starting in the WC… No. Is it fair to suggest Beckerman would help us keep possession against a squad with speed and high pressure up top in a game like this… think so.

        My two cents. Cheers

  26. ThatKidNandez says:

Zusi for Landycakes. Klinsi has lost his mind

  27. ed from houston says:

a clear corner kick goes to Jamaica for a goal kick, ridiculous…

  28. TomG says:

How the heck does JJ whiff so badly on that?? Great pass by jozy

  29. TomG says:

    Tis field is godawful.

  30. Janson says:

    Jozy is terrible.

  31. TomG says:

Another terrible touch by Jozy. This is the worst I’ve seen him in a long time.

  32. TomG says:

You can see giant divots in the pitch. Why is this field so poor? Is it always so poor? This is terrible and a huge advantage for Jamaica.

  33. TomG says:

Everyone is just too slow tonight. Two touches when there should be one. Slow slow slow slow slow!

  34. TomG says:

Ref is pretty bad per usual.

  35. biff says:

    Bacon really sukked.

  36. Dimidri says:

Beautiful goal. Good work from Bedoya, Zusi, Altidore, Mix, and one other guy on that .

  37. TomG says:

Jooooozyyyyyy!! Nice cross by EC. Great tackle by Mixx to make the play.

  38. Citronomics says:

Castillo lays it off to Jozy for his goalz. While Castillo’s errant passes make me cringe, would like o see him in WC squad for an attacking option off the bench.

  39. Bac says:

And JK again picks the right subs… who’d have thunk it

  40. Rocco says:

Can’t help but cringe at the dos a cero chant here

  41. Rob says:

Kevin Bacon just can’t put it away. Wesley Snipes scores.

  42. Liz says:

    Where’s my Wondow? :'(

  43. Believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ says:

whats up with Jozy not celebrating any goals? Is he on some sort of protest? He’s been doing that a lot lately.
