I don’t think they are the best Americans this year — I’d pick Christen Press myself and there’s an argument to be made that Lauren Holiday had a better year than both of them too. But given that Wambach broke the world record for international goals, her inclusion seems fair. Morgan had an amazing Algarve Cup in the spring, but her NWSL and USWNT performances since then really don’t seem like enough to warrant such an honor. I’ll be interested to see if either of them land in the final three again.

I agree with Caitlin, Holiday and Press should have been selected, though Wambach’s inclusion is warranted. Morgan had a nice year, but it doesn’t compare to the two who were left off.

Abby deserves this hands down. What a fantastic player – the US women continue to set records, yet relatively few notice. Everyone freaks out when the US men’s team goes 10 games unbeaten, but the WNT do this over and over. US Soccer should really start thinking about combining the successes of the WNT with the objectives of the MNT to raise soccer awareness even more in the US.
