SBI MLS Team of the Week: Chicago Fire

The Chicago Fire did not let a little goal-line controversy get in the way of their return to the win column.

Behind a masterful performance by Patrick Nyarko on the wing and other goals from Gonzalo Segares and Chris Rolfe, the Fire continued their mastery over the New York Red Bulls at Toyota Park with a 3-1 win that improved their record against New York at the venue to 6-0-3 all-time and earned them SBI MLS Team of the Week honors.

Chicago could have come unraveled after Dominic Oduro's 64th-minute shot was incorrectly ruled a no-goal after Wilman Conde attempted to sweep it off the goal line. Instead, they bounced back from the incident and a previous Red Bulls equalizer in the second half, with Rolfe playing a big role off the bench in his first home game since re-signing with the club two months ago.

Chicago beat out the likes of the Montreal Impact, who opened the new Stade Saputo with a 4-1 thumping of the Seattle Sounders; the Vancouver Whitecaps, who battled with 10 men and defeated the Colorado Rapids 1-0; and Real Salt Lake, who avenged an earlier loss to Chivas USA with a thorough 3-0 beating at the Home Depot Center.

What did you think of the Fire's win? Which team had the best Week 15 in your opinion?

  1. How about MLS take the lead on being the first league in the World to ignore politics, do the obvious, logical thing and implement goal line technology. It’s the right move and frankly not that difficult to do and ensures the right outcome on the most critical of all calls.
